Population globe is a project for ‘Digital Sculpture 1: 3D modelling for sculpture’ course at Aalto University. I wanted to take some real life data and print it in a tacit form. I want to continue exploring what I call phenomena visualistaions. I think there’s a need to visualise large phenomenas that are easily lost in numbers. I would like to continue developing this population globe demo to a series of 3d printed sculptures visualising the phenomena of global migration.
I used population data by UN. I wrote a Pyhton script in Blender to map the population data to mountains representing the county’s population.
I also used the UN global migration data to map the movement of people between countries. This hasn’t been printed out yet.
Here’s a few shots about the test print.
